EXPERIENCE THE ARCHIPELAGO
SEAL SAFARI
During the summer of 2024, you have the opportunity to join the Seal safari off the island of Harstena, on the border between St Anna and Gryt’s archipelago. At the far end of the sea by the lighthouse Sandsänkan there are some low cliffs and here a seal colony has re-established itself for a decade. The lighthouse itself is the center of Sandsänkan’s seal protection area with a radius of 1 km. Between June 29 and August 17, we run the tour both on Wednesdays and Sundays.
WEDNESDAYS: The boat departs from the harbor in Tyrislöt at 16.00 and enters Harstena at about 16.30, then we stay at Harstena until about 18.00 when we continue out to the seal protection area at Sandsänkan. The trip to Sandsänkan and back takes about 2 hours. We are back at Harstena about 20.00 and then there is time to eat either at Restaurang Loftet or if you have a packed picnic. The boat back to Tyrislöt departs at about 21.00. If you want to stay overnight at Harstena, there is a boat that returns at 2.30 pm on Thursday (accommodation and return are booked separately).
SUNDAYS: The tour starts in the harbor in Fyrudden at 16.00 and enters Harstena at about 16.30, then we stay at Harstena until about 18.00 when we continue out to the seal protection area at Sandsänkan. After the tour, you can choose whether you want to go back to Fyrudden directly (approx. 21.00 from Harstena and back to Fyrudden approx. 21.30) or if you want to stay overnight at Harstena and return at 15.00 on Monday.
It is also possible to start the tour on Harstena if you are already on the island, you can get to Harstena yourself with, for example, the Archipelago Line, the Archipelago Traffic or a taxi boat. Accommodation at Harstena is booked here: Accommodation
